Capital Insurance Service has covered Northern Nevada since 1996, first as Capital Auto Insurance. Our Reno office is in the Villaggio Business Park on Double Diamond Parkway, up the street from the Nevada DMV at 9155 Double Diamond. If you just walked out of the DMV needing proof of insurance, we are the closest agency to the building.
We are independent, which means one conversation gets your policy shopped across more than 20 insurance companies including Progressive, GEICO, Travelers, and Dairyland. Stephanie Navarro manages both our Reno and Carson City offices and has been licensed in property, casualty, life, and health for over 16 years.

Insurance for the Reno DMV, Same Visit
The Nevada DMV’s Reno office is at 9155 Double Diamond Parkway. We are at 9190, in the Villaggio Business Park across the way. People come to us all day for the same three reasons.
They were turned away at the counter because their coverage could not be verified. They got a suspension notice and need proof before the registration is reinstated. Or they bought a car and need a policy in force before they can plate it.
All three are quick. Bring your VIN, your license, and whatever paperwork the DMV handed you, and we will get coverage bound and proof sent while you are here. Worth reading first: what you need in place to insure your vehicle before going to the DMV.
Nevada DMV Requirements and NVLIVE
Nevada does not wait for a traffic stop to find out whether you are insured. The DMV verifies coverage electronically through NVLIVE, checking your policy against your registration continuously, with no grace period. When a policy cancels, the DMV can suspend your registration, assess fines, and require a reinstatement fee before you can legally drive again.
If a DMV letter showed up in your mail, bring it in. You are already coming to this end of Double Diamond anyway.
Car Insurance in Reno
Nevada requires 25/50/20 liability coverage on every registered vehicle: $25,000 for bodily injury per person, $50,000 per accident, and $20,000 for property damage. That is the legal floor and it is thin. One at-fault crash on I-580 can pass $20,000 in vehicle damage before anyone is treated for an injury.
We quote Reno drivers across standard, preferred, and non-standard carriers, and that range is the point. A clean record gets shopped to Progressive, GEICO, and Travelers. A ticket, an at-fault accident, a lapse, or an SR-22 requirement gets shopped to Dairyland, Mendota, Bristol West, National General, and Hallmark. Most agencies only have one of those two lists.
Ask us about raising your liability limits and about uninsured motorist coverage, which Nevada insurers must offer you at limits no lower than your liability limits. You can see the full range of auto insurance coverage we write in Nevada, including the discounts most drivers miss.
SR-22 and DUI Insurance in Reno
If the court or the DMV told you to file an SR-22, you need a carrier that files them and an agency that knows the process. An SR-22 is not an insurance policy. It is a certificate your insurer files with the Nevada DMV proving you carry at least the state minimum, and it usually stays in place for three years.
Most standard carriers will not write the policy behind it. We work with the carriers that will. If you are trying to work out how a DUI affects your insurance rate before you call, start there.
Coverage After a Lapse
A gap in coverage does not make you uninsurable. It makes you a different rating class, and there are carriers built for it. We write drivers with a recent lapse, a ticket, an at-fault accident, or no prior insurance at all. Our guide to getting car insurance after a lapse in coverage walks through what reinstating actually involves in Nevada.
Motorcycle, RV, and Boat Insurance in Reno
Nevada requires the same 25/50/20 liability limits on a motorcycle as on a car, and you need coverage before you can register the bike. Since the DMV is right up the street, plenty of riders handle both in one trip.
We write riders through Dairyland Cycle and others, covering the Mt. Rose Highway, Geiger Grade, and Tahoe loop crowd. Whether you ride year-round or store the bike through winter changes what motorcycle insurance in Nevada should cost you. We also write RVs and boats for owners headed to Pyramid Lake and Tahoe.
Home, Renters, and Mobile Home Insurance in Reno
We write homeowners insurance for Reno and Washoe County through Travelers and Stillwater. Two things matter more here than most places. Wildfire exposure affects pricing and availability for homes near the foothills. And standard homeowners policies exclude earthquake damage entirely, which is worth pricing in one of the most seismically active states in the country.
If your dwelling limit has not been reviewed in a few years it is probably behind what a contractor would quote today, and the reasons rebuild cost and market value stop matching are worth understanding before you need to file. Renting instead? Renters insurance usually costs less bundled with your auto policy than it does on its own.
Business Insurance in Reno
Reno and Sparks run on warehousing, logistics, construction, and trades, and every one of those needs a certificate before work starts. We write business insurance across Northern Nevada covering commercial property, commercial auto, and commercial trucking.
Most contracts here hinge on general liability limits, so send us what the contract asks for and we will match it. When you need proof of coverage to get on a job site, request a certificate of insurance and we will turn it around.
Life Insurance in Reno
We place term, whole life, final expense, and mortgage protection through Transamerica and Crump. If you carry a mortgage in Reno with no coverage behind it, that is the gap worth closing first, and our life insurance options start at less than most people expect.

Why Reno Drivers Use an Independent Agent
One application goes to more than 20 carriers instead of one. If your record has something on it, we have the markets that write it instead of a decline letter. We re-shop at renewal rather than letting the rate drift. And we have been doing this in Northern Nevada since 1996, with a 4.7 star average across more than 120 Google reviews of this office.
Between renewals you can make a payment or file a claim any time without coming in. Refer a friend and we will compensate you for it.
